IS KEAVENEY CHOMPING AT THE BIT FOR A RETURN TO POLITICS?

first_imgShe may have been in the paddocks for a while but Donegal’s former Fianna Fail Senator Cecelia Keaveney could be under starter’s order to re-enter politics. The Moville woman was at Leopardstown Races this week and refused to rule out the possibility of a return to public life.Ms Keaveney was along with former Fianna Fáil Kerry North-Limerick West TD Tom McEllistrim, from Ballymacelligott, near Tralee. Asked if they were on starter’s orders for the next election Ms Keaveney said: “All I would say is never say never . . . That’s a politician’s answer; one has to keep one’s practice going.’”The former senator has still not made a public statement – almost a year on – on why she wrongly claimed overnight accommodation expenses on FOUR separate occasions when she was actually out of the country as a senator. The Fianna Fail politician was contacted three times about her expenses – after claiming overnight expenses when she was away on official Dail business. She wrongly claimed €140 for each of nine nights. On those different occasions she was in PARIS, ISTANBUL, BELFAST and STRASBOURG – when her accommodation was already paid for!!! The revelations came in documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act last January.Despite numerous calls for her to explain the error, she never has.© 2011 donegaldaily.com, all Rights ReservedThe copying, republication or redistribution of donegaldaily.com Content, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited by law.Follow us on www.twitter.com/donegaldaily Follow us on www.facebook.com/donegaldailySell anything on www.donegaldailyclassifieds.comIS KEAVENEY CHOMPING AT THE BIT FOR A RETURN TO POLITICS? was last modified: December 31st, 2011 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Cecelia Keaveneyexpenses claimlast_img read more

Nigel Clarke, emphasises a point while addressing attendees at the finals and awards presentation of the 6th staging of the National Business Model Competition at the Knutsford Court Hotel on Friday (March 22). Story Highlights Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Hon. Nigel Clarke, is encouraging young persons, to take on entrepreneurial ventures, particularly those leaving tertiary institutions.“There is no better time to have an entrepreneurial venture than when you are young… this is the time to take risks,” Dr. Clarke said.He was speaking at the finals and awards presentation of the 6th staging of the National Business Model Competition at the Knutsford Court Hotel on Friday (March 22).The Finance Minister pointed out that the skills being learnt and the knowledge being gained in college/university will be useful in embarking on a new business in the current economic climate.“The environment that we have today, which is an environment of great economic opportunity, the likes of which we have not seen in Jamaica in decades, is one that I would encourage you to take advantage of,” Dr. Clarke urged. The Finance Minister emphasised that the “new Jamaica” which is emerging, is one of economic opportunity particularly for young people who want to go into business.“Jamaica will not be able to achieve its potential without persons venturing out, taking a risk, starting a business, providing a service, hiring people, growing and prospering,” he said.He assured that the Government has been putting measures in place to continually improve the business environment and provide a supportive ecosystem which facilitates the success of small businesses.“We have put in place a set of policies that are geared towards encouraging the “bubbling up” of small businesses, that are geared towards encouraging small and micro businesses to emerge and to thrive” he said. These include, as was outlined in his Budget presentation – the abolition of minimum business tax “which has been an unnecessary burden on micro businesses”.The Minister also announced the abolition of the asset tax for non-financial businesses; and the raising of the threshold of General Consumption Tax (GCT) from $3 million to $10 million.“We believe that these measures will remove some of the fiscal obstacles to small business growth and small business success,” he said.Dr. Clarke also informed that for the upcoming financial year, the Government has put in place avenues through which Micro Small and Medium Enterprises can find financial support, which he termed the “oxygen” for businesses.“We have programmes through the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) and directly through the Ministry of Finance to provide financial support whether it be by way of loans or by way of collateral support,” he said.He noted that the Government has also set aside $200 million in equity financing for business start-ups to complement private angel networks. Public Schools benefit from TCI Hospital Clean Hands Project

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppTurks and Caicos Islands , June 8, 2017 – Providenciales –  Public primary schools on Providenciales and Grand Turk received educational sessions and donations of hand hygiene supplies as part of a multi-phase ‘Clean Hands Project’ launched by Interhealth Canada – Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital over the past two weeks.   These institutions were the Oseta Jolly Primary, Ianthe Pratt Primary, Enid Capron Primary and Eliza Simmons Primary. Ona Glinton Primary School is scheduled for this Friday, June 9th 2017. Proper Hand Hygiene is one of the most cost-effective means of preventing the spread of bacteria. Teams of Infection Prevention and Control advocates from TCI Hospital visited each institution to conduct interactive hand hygiene GloGerm sessions.  The fun and safe liquid, gel and powder casts a revealing glow when exposed to ultraviolet light, which turns the invisible product into simulated germs.   There were demonstrations on proper hand washing techniques and hand sanitizer dispenser stations were mounted across each school compound accompanied by wall signage. Interhealth Canada – TCI Hospital donated supplies of antibacterial hand soap for bathrooms along with cases of hand towels, bottles of hand sanitizers, Clorox wipes and hundreds of pocket size-antibacterial wipes.   The second phase of the project will focus on public primary schools in the outer-islands.   The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sport and Library Services tremendously supported the initiative, which focuses on preventative measures.  Germs are unavoidable, but millions of bacteria can live on the skin. S  hared keyboards can also contain as much germs as a toilet seat.   Items such as cell phones can have more harmful bacteria than the handle in a public restroom because germs lurking on surfaces touched by persons may be transferred to cell phones, tablets and other everyday gadgets used by children and adults. Touching the face with contaminated hands may spread illnesses like pneumonia, the cold, and the flu.   Overseas studies on bacteriology have found there are nearly 332,000 genetically distinct bacteria on the human hand. These bacteria belong to 4,742 different species.   The average person spends less than 10 seconds washing their hands.   The ideal recommended washing time is 20/30 seconds.Press Release: interHealthCanada#TCIHospitalcleanhandsproject Related Items:#TCIHospitalcleanhandsproject Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApplast_img read more
