BuCor chief slams Sebastian’s death doubters

first_img“‘Wag silang magsasalita ng gano’n. Sa totoo lang, putang-ina ninyo,” Bantag said in an interview with GMA 7’s 24 Oras on Monday evening. Bantag said the BuCor can prove that Sebastian and other high-profile NBP inmates who were declared coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) fatalities indeed died from the respiratory illness. MANILA – Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director General Gerald Bantag did not hide his frustration as some high public officials are speculating on the deaths of high-profile inmates, including convicted drug lord Jaybee Sebastian, in New Bilibid Prison (NBP). Several public officials and groups expressed doubt over the reported death of high-profile inmates at NBP that were not being reported to the media due to data privacy act. “Kailangan nating mag-positive muna sa swab bago po natin nilalagay sa Site Harry ‘yan. Kung may (nag-positive sa) rapid tests na ina-isolate, doon lamang po sa camps nila ‘yun,” Bantag said.center_img The Bucor official also denied that they are mishandling the isolation of probable and confirmed cases inside the national penitentiary. “Ang question dito, national security na, national health pa, magsasalitang pinatakas? Gago pala ‘yan e. Dahil sabi nila, baka pinatakas. O, magharap kayo sa’kin ng buhay na tao at tingnan natin kung siya ba ‘yon o hindi,” he added. The BuCor continues efforts to combat the virus, especially with over 29,000 inmates currently detained at the NBP. Out of the 339 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bilibid, 45 already died./PNlast_img
