EBOLA Fear Leaves Sanniquellie Hospital Deserted

first_imgThe fear of Ebola has left the George Way Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie vandalized as nurses and patients fled after a man suspected of having Ebola when to the hospital for treatment.Reports reaching the Daily Observer said on Thursday, July 17, the man who was believed to have come from Monrovia went to the hospital to be treated after coming down with suspected Ebola symptoms.Sources said upon noticing that the case was Ebola, the nurses on the ward and admitted patients took up to their heels and fled, leaving the hospital deserted. The hospital is yet to resume normal duty since last week as citizens, as well as the nurses and doctors are still afraid to return.According to a local radio station, the suspected Ebola patient later fled Sanniquellie and headed for Gbehlay Geh, where he was pursued and brought back to; but his whereabouts are presently unknown. Some of the nurses who fled the hospital told this paper that they fled because there are no protective gears to handle anyone presenting Ebola symptoms.Prior to the alarming news of Ebola, the Nurses’ Services Director at the Ganta United Methodist Hospital, Mrs. Nora K. Sandi, told this paper in an exclusive interview that the hospital doesn’t have any protective materials to cater to anyone who may come down with Ebola.“The news about nurses deserting hospital makes many to feel vulnerable to any sickness which might appear like Ebola,” a man, who had also gone to the hospital with another sickness but was not treated, said.“If anyone comes down with any fever regardless of it not being Ebola, you are likely to die because nobody will be there to cater to you,” most residents of the county are saying. There is careful movement of people around the streets of Ganta and other places in Nimba over the alarming news of this deadly disease.Normal operations are ongoing at the Ganta Hospital and other hospitals including Jackson F. Doe Referral Hospital, as well as clinics around Nimba; but they, too, may desert their posts when a suspected case presents itself, because of the lack of protective materials.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
